The Longest Yard Review
Years ago, pro football player Paul Crewe (Adam Sandler), was accused of shaving points in the NFL. Even though everybody was convinced he was guilty, he was found innocent. Now, he lands in jail, found guilty for drinking and driving, disrespecting authority, and destruction of public property. He is sent to a prison in Texas, where the manipulative warden (James Cromwell) makes him the guard’s football team’s advisor. He then is obligated to become the leading quarterback in the prisoner's team, which will have to play against the guards. Crewe proceeds to draft prisoners for his team, teaching them how to play along the way. “We might not have the best team, but we’ll have the meanest”. (Burt Reynolds - Coach Nate Scarborough)

Even though this movie is not available in Netflix Online, it is still available in Netflix DVD, so you can still order it through the mail.
This may be another Adam Sandler movie, but it will definitely change your mood repeatedly, from joyful, to angry, to depressed, from the victory of the convicts, to the paid-off referees, and even to the death of Caretaker (Chris Rock). It will crack you up, and make you shed a tear.
Even though this movie having a sappy ending, having it as cliché as can be - the “good guys” winning, the captain of the opposing team congratulating the “good guy”, and everybody happily going home, in this case, the prison. It’s much like the ending of Doug Dearth’s “Underdogs”, or Harald Zwart’s 2010 “Karate Kid” reboot. Summarizing, its a classic finale to an unorthodox movie. Considering the “good guys” are actually the cons, and the “bad guys” are the guards, it’s certainly something you wouldn’t expect.
Rotten Tomatoes may have given it a 31%, but Netflix Comedies gives it a solid 7/10.

ReplyDeleteThank you, friend. Do you have a blog? I'd like to read about your interests.
DeleteSincerely, your review was off, in my opinion. First of all, I strongly think Adam Sandler is a very defective actor; it really seems that he is always the same boring character in every movie that he stars in. One thing that I partly agree with is when it was stated that this movie would make your mood go from "joyful, to angry, to depressed, repeatedly", except I believe you should change "joyful" with the word "disappointed". At least, "The Longest Yard" got a higher tomato rating than "Batman V Superman", which got 29%. For me, this is a 4.5/10.
